WyrdCon 2011 Panel: Transmedia Storytelling and Participatory Culture

WyrdCon 2011: Two Wyrd Conference logoThis past weekend, Witchafactory CEO Lauren Scime Gable participated in the Transmedia Storytelling and Participatory Culture panel at WyrdCon at the Hilton in Costa Mesa, CA. WyrdCon is an interactive theater convention focused on increasing exposure to interactive theater by providing entertaining events and educational experiences including Live Action Role Playing (LARP), Alternate Reality Gaming (ARG) and other forms of interactive theater.

Moderated by Angelique Toschi and including other visionary transmedia producers Scott Walker, Bret Shefter, and Alistair Jeffs, the panel focused on introducing the concept of transmedia storytelling to conference attendees, and the interrelationship between transmedia storytelling, LARPs and ARGs.

In recounting her experience, Lauren says:

The events and panels varied greatly -from workshops on creating weaponry and costumes, discussions around game theory, storytelling, transmedia and ARGs, to elaborate LARPs of all genres and kinds. And like the events, the participants ranged dramatically across age groups, professions, and experience. Everyone there had something to add to the experience, and everyone threw themselves into having a fun time.
